The Law Divides The States Into Three Catagories As Follows;

A) THE YES STATES
Alaska, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New York, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, and West Virginia.

B) THE MAYBE STATES
Colorado, Louisana, Neveda, New Hampshire, North Dakota. Washington DC, Wisconsin, and Wyoming

Access into these states is strongly hoped for in the future. This means that, basically, we are making every attempt to dig our way out of the mountains of paperwork that YOUR state requires of us. The Maybe States will take time and there are no guarantees).

C) THE NEVER-GONNA-HAPPEN STATES
(these are felony and other tough-hurdle states that might throw us in jail for such unthinkable infractions. And they tell us that they won't be changing their minds anytime soon!)

THE YES STATES

ALASKA
No technical limit. Alaska's law says "reasonable quantity." We can only
ship to these zip codes in Alaska due to shipping obstacles: 99501-24, 99540,
99548, 99567, 99577, 99587, 99591 or 99599.

CALIFORNIA
Two cases per person per month.

CONNECTICUT
Customer must first complete and clear Connecticut Forms BT-100 & S&BT (includes payment of applicable Connecticut state excise taxes; call your DRS at 860-541-3225 or download forms at www.drs.state.ct.us under “Forms and Publications”). With proof of both completed and approved documents in hand, we can ship up to two cases per individual per two months.

GEORGIA
Five cases per person per year.

IDAHO
Two cases per person per month. Cannot ship more than two cases to same address at one time.

ILLINOIS
Two cases per person per year.

IOWA
Two cases per person per month.

MINNESOTA
Two cases per person per year.

MISSOURI
Two cases per person per year.

MONTANA
Residents must first get a permit ($50 first time & $25 annual renewal) from their state liquor commission and have it in hand at time of purchase. This permit allows them to receive up to 24 cases per year total; but we are only allowed to ship 60 cases total annually into the state as a whole.
(Hey, don't ask us, it's your law.)

NEW YORK

NEW MEXICO
Two cases per person per month.

OREGON
Two cases per person per month. Can't deliver more than two cases at one time to the same address.

WASHINGTON
Two cases per person per year.

WEST VIRGINIA
Two cases per person per month.

THE MAYBE STATES

Colorado, Louisana, Neveda, New Hampshire, North Dakota. Washington DC, Wisconsin, Wyoming

THE NEVER-GONNA-HAPPEN STATES

ALL STATES NOT LISTED ABOVE
A word to you residents of the Never-Gonna-Happen States: these laws are remnants of the Prohibition Era. Yes, that was a long time ago-but in more than half the country, it is still illegal to buy a bottle of wine and have it shipped to you. Keep reading to see what you can do to make your state a reciprocal state.
The only way to get your states out of this category is to do what we did this past year in Hawaii:

A) Ask a legislator to introduce a bill for Reciprocal Shipping. Becoming a reciprocal state opens the door for all of the other non-reciprocal states to legalize the shipping of wine from wineries.

B) Ask the Wine Institute (www.wineinstitute.org) to help you lobby for this bill. They spend money every year hiring contract lobbyists to lobby for these bills in different states.

C) Go to the Senate and House hearings that hear this bill and testify yourselves as to why it should be passed (e.g. brings extra revenue to your state wineries, brings extra state G.E. and liquor taxes into your state, allows residents to buy niche wines not available through retail stores.)

D) Get everyone that you can to write letters, phone, and testify in person at these hearings.

REMEMBER, THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE. THE ONLY REASON YOU'RE STILL LIVING IN A NEVER-GONNA-HAPPEN STATE IS BECAUSE NO ONE THERE IS CHALLENGING THESE ARCHAIC LAWS!

Anticipate some opposition from the liquor wholesalers. They argue that if people are allowed to get wine shipped to them, it cuts in on their profits. They have the wine market tied up tight with their Three-Tier System of wine marketing.

The Three-Tier System means that the only way wine can legally get to the consumer is when it is first brought into the state by a licensed wholesaler. Then it must go through a licensed retailer before it can get to you (at inflated prices, we might add).

The truth is that these wholesalers deal primarily in huge-volume wines from high-profile wineries. Most of the quality smaller niche wineries are not represented by wholesalers. That is why becoming a reciprocal state DOES NOT cut into their territory. To their credit, many wholesalers lately have been getting a clue and gaining a grip on this truth.

Residents should demand to become a reciprocal shipping state. This the only way YOU can gain legal access to 7/8ths of the quality wines available in our great nation, other than going to those wineries in person.

SO STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHT TO IMPORT QUALITY NICHE WINES AND DON'T LET LIQUOR WHOLESALERS PUSH YOU AROUND FOR REASONS THAT HAVE NO BASIS IN REALITY!

OK, we'll get off our soapbox now. We just thought you had a right to know the facts.
